NEWPORT County's proposed loan move for Chester striker Cortez Belle has been revived, manager John Cornforth told supporters at a fan's forum last night.
The Exiles boss also revealed that he would be trying to entice midfielder Antonio Corbisiero back to the club as he has been released by Swansea City.
"Cortez is back in the mix," he said, "I will be talking to Chester tomorrow and I am hopeful that we can get him until the end of the season."
He added: "Corbisiero has been released by Swansea and could be back on board in the next few days."
County's board have personally injected more cash into the relegation cause, giving Cornforth money to spend on new players until the end of the season.
The manager is also looking at a couple of goalkeepers and another striker.
He told fans: "I honestly believe we will stay up but only if we bring in two or three players." For a club bottom-but-one in the Nationwide South the meeting surprisingly passed without too much probing from the supporters, with chairman Chris Blight apologising on behalf of the board for the mistakes that have been made this season and he also backed and paid tribute to the hard work of Cornforth.
Blight and supporter-director Colin Everett explained the club's finances and insisted that there will be no repeat of the situation this year.
They were also adamant that none of the board are going to walk away, a relief to fans as several board members have substantial sums of money in the club in the form of loans.
The removal of these funds would put the club under severe pressure but Blight assured that the loans would only be repaid depending on the club receiving a cash windfall from a cup run like they had when they faced Blackpool three years ago.
The board have had to dig deep to keep the club going at a time when they have had just one home game in a month but they insisted that the club are on a sure footing for the rest of this year and with the projected budget for next season.
County's next game is at Weymouth on March 19.
