Up to 30 abandoned cars and those without valid tax disks were removed from Newport's roads this week and crushed as part of a multi-agency operation.
Some of vehicles concerned had been stolen, set alight by joy riders and abandoned while others had been stripped for parts and left on the streets to be vandalised.
Newport city council, Gwent Police and the DVLA took part in Operation Cubit, which saw the vehicles towed to a compound in Bridgend.
Once there, they have a certain amount of time to be claimed by their owners before they are crushed and turned into cubes.
So far, the operation has targeted Old Barn, Somerton, St Julians, Rogerstone, Pill, Malpas, Bettws and Llanmartin.
It is the third time it has run.
David Johnston, of Feering Street, Newport, has been campaigning about untaxed cars.
He said: "This crackdown has been run before but there is still a massive problem with people driving un-taxed vehicles in Newport.
"I think this scheme is a very good idea because people are concerned these vehicles are not roadworthy. It's a problem throughout the whole of our city."
