A NEWPORT woman who met two of her sisters for the first time in 55 years was showing them the sights of South Wales at the weekend.

We exclusively revealed on Saturday how Carol Twells, 55, from St Julians, met Ann Johnson, 57, from Kent and Jean Scully, 67, from Coventry, at her home last week after finding them on a website.

Mrs Twells was adopted as a six-month-old baby after her father died of TB and her mother decided she could not give her the upbringing she wanted for her.

So after 55 years apart, it was an emotional reunion for the trio.

Since meeting they have looked at old photographs, talked, laughed and cried but at the weekend Mrs Johnson and Mrs Scully were given a tour of the sights of South Wales.

Mrs Twells said: "It has been an amazing few days. We have a had a brilliant time together. It has been a weekend to remember.

"We took them to Cardiff to see the castle, to Cardiff Bay, on a tour round the Millennium Stadium and to St Fagans. They are really enjoying seeing Wales."

On Saturday, Mrs Twells took her two sisters on a tour around her home town to see its sights and show them where she grew up.

She said: "We visited the clock, the new Riverfront, the museum and the shops. We had a real sisters' day looking round Newport, just the three of us. It was great.

"We are constantly finding out more about each other and more about our past and we have talked non-stop all weekend.

"It has been a great reunion and I can't wait until we meet up again."

The reunion came a year after Mrs Twells posted a message on the Genes Reunited website wanting to trace her family. After months of e-mailing one another the sisters eventually met on Thursday.
