THE Misbah Tandoori in Priory Street, Monmouth, is a family-run restaurant which offers authentic Bangladeshi cuisine and is located in a grade II listed building in Monmouth.
I dined with my partner at the cosy restaurant on a busy Monday evening. With intimate seating and a bar,it was easy to settle into the traditional room.
We were made to feel welcome by friendly staff and a warm plate of popadums awaited us.
On the wall was a list of famous people who have visited the restaurant which meant we were sat at what could have been the same table as Oasis, Bob Geldof or David Bellamy.
To start I enjoyed a chatt masalla, spicy potato and chickpeas and my partner didn't stop praising the large, juicy king prawn butterfly.
For main course we enjoyed a tasty feast of chicken biryani with special rice and a tandoori mixed dish.
The hearty portion of biryani didn't fail in taste and it was complemented by aromatic flavoured basmati rice and special spices.
The delicious mixed tandoori was a colourful array of chicken and lamb marinated with yoghurt, spices and herbs. After finishing off a fine house red we delved into the dessert menu. There was plenty for the sweet-toothed with chocolate desserts, ice cream and sorbet.
After the spicy dish, I cooled down with an orange sorbet served in a frozen orange - very refreshing. My partner chose the honey pot, which was an ice cream dessert drizzled with honey and nuts.
The friendly atmosphere and excellent food made the night. For three-courses each and a bottle of house wine, the meal came to £47.90. Hannah Mlatem
