A TEENAGE motorcyclist suffered serious injuries when a wire was deliberately placed across a Gwent lane and caused him to come off his bike.
The 15-year-old local boy was travelling along a bridleway off Thomas Ellis Way in Tredegar at about 12.30pm on Saturday when the incident happened.
His motorbike hit the wire, which police say appears to have been tied to two fence posts, and he fell from his bike.
The teenager was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny with facial injuries and a possible fractured arm.
His injuries are described as serious but not life-threatening.
Inspector Mark Ryley of Gwent police force control room, told the Argus the incident was being treated as a serious assault.
Tredegar police are still trying to establish exactly what happened and why the wire was there.
They are appealing for anyone with information to contact Tedegar police on 01633 838111.
