A MOTHER who had two operations cancelled is hoping an operation will go ahead next week.

Cherie Le Rue, pictured, 48, from Oakfield, Cwmbran was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus last June.

Now the mum-of-two is waiting for an operation at the Royal Gwent Hospital to remove her oesophagus.

She has been told the tumour is no longer there but she has a thickening in her oesophagus which could be cancerous and the removal of the oesophagus is the only way to remove that risk of cancer.

Mrs Le Rue should have had the operation in January and last week but they were both cancelled because of a lack of intensive care beds.

Now the operation has been scheduled for next Wednesday. We reported how oesophagal cancer sufferer Sandra Lowe finally had her operation to remove her oesophagus last week after it was cancelled three times.

Mrs Le Rue said: "I feel like I am living in limbo and you can't get on with your life because it is always in your mind.

"I was pleased Mrs Lowe's operation went ahead last week and am hoping that mine will go ahead as planned now next week."

On the two previous occasions the operations have been cancelled, it happened on a Friday so Mrs Le Rue says she is dreading the phone ringing today.

She said: "I won't be able to rest and I am dreading it in case I get a phone call to cancel.

"I am getting myself prepared again and just living on my nerves playing the waiting game."
