NEWPORT'S Transporter Bridge was closed for around two hours yesterday after a heavy goods vehicle shed its load of gravel.
The accident happened at about 11am near the Ship and Pilot pub, Church Street.
Recovery vehicles were used to clear up the gravel and no other vehicles were involved. Police said the driver escaped uninjured.
All HGVs were being diverted along Cardiff Road and traffic was diverted through Pill.
Workers at vehicle hire firm Tor Cross, were forced to remain in their building during the accident.
Managing director Jim Watkins said: "Since the council blocked off the end of Coomassie Street six weeks ago our only other entrance was where the accident happened."
