NEWPORT'S newest school got off to the best of starts with a formal blessing from an archbishop.
Yesterday saw the official opening of the new 12 million St Joseph's RC High School, in Duffryn, Newport.
Assembly minister for education Jane Davidson and the Archbishop of Cardiff Peter Smith were present at the opening ceremony.
It was a chance for staff and pupils to show-off their new school which boasts five computer technology suites equipped with more than 140 work stations and wireless mobile laptops.
It also has two drama studios, sports halls, a gymnasium, science laboratories and technology suites.
Head teacher Sue Jenkins said: "This is an exciting time in the history of the school and congratulations to everyone involved in the design and build and the students and staff."
Built to the latest specifications, the new building incorporates a courtyard and cloisters, much like those associated with Oxford and Cambridge universities.
The school building is one of the best in Wales and was constructed on time and within budget.
