A GWENT MP has engineered an alliance between two of the region's leading electronics outfits.
Newbridge-based manufacturer Axiom is teaming up with testing specialist Blackwood EMC to offer a one-stop service to customers in the UK and Europe.
They were introduced by Islwyn MP and under secretary of state for Wales Don Touhig.
The firms are aiming to supply a sophisticated package of services including electronics design and assembly, safety and EMC (electromagnetic compliance) testing, and worldwide logistics.
Axiom managing director Shaun Ashmead said: "Everyone here is excited about the opportunities this partnership will bring.
"Working together means we can provide everything a customer could want, we can add value and become more competitive.
"In the past the onus of testing the product would rest with the customer. Through this collaboration the customer can choose to include compliance testing in the packages we offer."
John Davies, managing director of Blackwood EMC, said: "We're working closely with Axiom to attract customers with a broader range of needs, from the individual entrepreneur with an idea for a product to the multinational company looking for a full electronics manufacturing solution based in the UK.
"This alliance can now take a prototype through every step needed to achieve the required safety and EMC standards with Blackwood EMC before delivering a complete manufacturing and delivery solution with Axiom."
Don Touhig introduced the companies last year after recognising their potential to work together.
Mr Touhig said: "I noticed that the management teams and the services these companies provide were compatible and they were located within five miles of each other.
"More companies across Wales could work together to offer something extra to the customer and create a culture of collaboration in the Welsh electronics industry."
