TV STARS Ant and Dec are set to host a celebrity version of the Ryder Cup at Newport's Celtic Manor Resort.

Golf fans Robbie Williams and David Beckham have been approached to play for the European team, with Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Costner lined up to represent the US.

Catherine Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas have also been asked to take part and would play for opposing teams.

The tournament, called The Celebrity Cup, will be broadcast live on ITV and is understood to be planned for the August Bank Holiday.

It is the brainchild of presenting duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both keen golfers.

Plans for the show, which will feature 15 hours of live coverage, are in the final stages.

Other celebrities approached to take part are keen golfers Boris Becker, Jodie Kidd and Frankie Dettori. Each team will consist of 10 showbiz and sporting stars.

Colin Montgomerie and his US counterpart Mark O'Meara have been pencilled in as the non-playing team captains.

The show will be co-produced by Ant and Dec's TV company Gallowgate Productions and TWI, which makes BBC series Superstars and is responsible for Premiership football coverage being shown overseas.
