FOR model year 2004 the GT2 has been revised, creating the most powerful road-going version of the 911 yet, with a maximum output of 483 bhp (355 kW) - 21 bhp (15 kW) more than the previous model. Increased performance has been achieved by development of the electronic engine management system. Maximum torque has risen by 20 Nm to 640 Nm, available between 3,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm and, with a power-to-weight ratio of 4.06 kgs per kW, the rear-wheel drive GT2 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just four seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 12.5 seconds. Top speed is 319 km/h (196 mph), making the new car 4 km/h faster than its predecessor.

In addition to the power output increase, front and rear suspension have been optimised with modified springs/shock absorbers, and the brake system has been revised, with even more sensitive four-channel ABS for effective anti-lock braking. Exhaust emissions compare with the 911 Turbo and easily comply with the stringent D4 regulations, equivalent to the EURO 4 standard test limits, which became madatory from January 2005. The car also satisfies the US LEV standard.

The advanced aerodynamics of the GT2 are further enhanced for model year 2004 by a new, distinctive carbon-fibre rear spoiler, which weighs 2.8 kg less than its predecessor. The new rear wing is available on request and comes as standard on the Clubsport version with carbon-fibre door mirror housings and radiator ducts.

The 911 GT2 is fitted with new GT3-syle wheels, measuring 8.5 ins wide with 235/40 R18 tyres at the front and 12 ins with 3154/30 R18 tyres at the rear. Porsche Ceramic Composit Brakes (PCCB) are standard, with ceramic brake disks weighing 50 per cent less than comparative metal disks, reducing the car's unsprung weight by 18kgs. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes are also available as an optional extra on the 911 Turbo, 911 GT3 and Carrera 4S.
