MAZDA HAS scored yet again at the glittering What Car? Awards 2005 in London last week with a double win for Best Coupe for Mazda RX-8 for the second consecutive year and Best Estate for Mazda6 for the third consecutive year.
"The Mazda is our Estate Car of the Year for the third time in a row. Yet again, it has managed to shrug off stiff competition and come seriously good new rivals to take the title," commented What Car? Editor David Motton. What Car? Liked the use of storage space and versatility: "The square-sided boot is low and easy to use and can be extended up to 1,712 litres - a capacity that few competitors can beat - and the whole thing is wrapped in a stylish body that neatly disguises the car's size.
"However, it's the way in which the Mazda6 hides away the 60/40 split rear seats that really impresses up and teaches the best of the rest a thing or two." Price also played a role in Mazda6 winning Best Estate: "What's more, you don't have to pay through the nose for this innovation either; Mazda is selling the 6 at a cracking price.
Our favourite is the cheaper of the two diesels, powered by a 119bhp engine that offers plenty of pace and pleasing economy," What Car? Added. The Mazda Estate offers plenty for the fleet and retail customer. What Car? Explained: "Low emissions combine with the low list price to make it a top choice for the company driver too, while private motorists are rewarded with good resale values.
