NEWPORT Gwent Dragons full back Percy Montgomery, pictured, is set to play against many of his former South African teammates when they face Investec Stormers in the Duel in the Desert clash in Dubai tomorrow night.
Montgomery is relishing the opportunity to play against his former team in the Northern Hemisphere-Southern Hemisphere showdown which kicks off at 8.15pm local time, 4.15pm GMT.
ITV Wales are showing an hour-long special at 11pm from Newport Rugby Club after the Wales-England Under-21 international which will include highlights from the Dragons-Stormers match.
"I have played against the Stormers and Western Province for most of my career so it will be a bit strange playing against them," said Montgomery.
"But it's a big game for me and I'm really looking forward to it. It will be my first time playing in Dubai so I am particularly looking forward to that."
Monty says that conditions in Dubai will ensure a fast open game which will test the difference in styles.
"The pace of the game is a lot quicker in South Africa as the weather allows you to play different game plans.
"In the Northern Hemisphere it is more of a territorial game, especially when it is cold and raining so it will be interesting to see how the two styles compare.
"But we will look to throw the ball around and I'm sure there will be plenty of tries." Montgomery says the Dragons are still targeting the game despite being without seven Wales squad members.
"Any game you play you want to win and this is no exception," he said. "We have a few guys on international duty which has given a great opportunity to some of the youngsters in the club who are really excited about playing against such a great team as the Stormers."
Newport chairman David Watkins, Dafydd James, the former Wales and British Lions threequarter, and Sunday Times rugby writer Stephen Jones will also take part in the HTV programme from Newport RFC, assessing Saturday's Wales-England game.
