WINGER Rhys Williams admitted that Wales were desperate to send Steve Hansen off in style on Saturday.
And having scored six tries in an emphatic 44-10 victory that is exactly what they did.
"There was a lot of talk of sending Steve off in style, and all the players were desperate to do so and put in a good performance," said Williams.
"The work Steve Hansen has put in won't be appreciated for a while, but hopefully we have shown a little of what he has achieved this afternoon.
"And you could say that we have done that. The atmosphere was the best in ages and it was a great way to end the Six Nations."
Just over 12 months ago the Wales team and Steve Hansen experienced the lowest point during his tenure as Wales coach with a defeat against Italy out in Rome.
And Williams also acknowledged that the defeat last season was in the back of their minds going into this game.
"We definitely wanted to get revenge for that defeat," said Williams.
"We knew that they would come here and target this game as a victory, but we were determined to make up for 12 months ago and I guess that was reflected in our performance on Saturday."
Second-half replacement Tom Shanklin, who has now been nicknamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his ability to come off the bench and score, was delighted with how this Six Nations campaign has gone.
"We knew they would tire in the second half and we started to find holes in their defence that we could exploit.
"This Six Nations has been very good for the side and for me, we only let ourselves down against Ireland.
"But the longer we are together, then the better this team will become.
"For me it has been a bit of a frustrating campaign but I can't really complain.
"I've scored three tries despite only starting one game, and hopefully I've done enough to convince the new coach that I'm ready for the summer tour."
