A VALLEYS tsunami appeal concert looks set to have raised more than £1,000.
Compered by the BBC's Beverly Humphries, the event at Pontllanfraith leisure centre on Friday night featured the talents of Stan Stennett, Mynyddislwyn and Bargoed Male Voice Choirs, Newbridge Ladies Choir, Oakdale Silver Band, Blackwood Comprehensive and Libanus Primary School Choirs and local school- children.
All the proceeds from the event are to go towards the British Red Cross charity, which is heavily involved in the aid effort in South-East Asia.
Blackwood councillor Nigel Dix, who was involved in organising the event, said: "It was an excellent concert. There was a good turnout and the acts were brilliant. I think we have raised near £1,000."
Blackwood councillor Leon Gardiner, who was also involved in putting the concert together, said: "We would like to thank the crowds for turning out. What we have done in Wales for the tsunami appeal is tremendous. All the acts were superb and I would like to thank the staff at Pontllanfraith leisure centre for all the hard work they put in."
