THE spooky sounds and bumps in the night at one Gwent pub can't be explained by a few too many pints.

Now, the landlord of the Friendly Fox at Rhiwderin has contacted a group of ghostbusters to help him get to the bottom of the strange goings on.

Since Paul and Kim Wilde took over the pub in December 2003 the couple have witnessed a random catalogue of eerie events.

From ghostly apparitions to strange voices and slamming doors, Paul and Kim say they want to know what is causing them.

Mr Wilde said: "I've heard a woman's voice calling our names and saying hello. I've also seen a strange female figure. The first time I just dismissed it, the second time was a bit scary."

The ghostly figure, who frequents the older part of the pub building which dates from 1760, has also been seen by staff and regulars.

Chef Dean Russell said: "I was here on my own late at night when I saw an outline of a figure near the chimney.

"I didn't stop around to get a good look, I was out of here."

In one particularly strange event in July last year the couple were in bed when they heard the kitchen radio turn on.

Mrs Wilde explained: "It was on for a couple of minutes and then it went off again.

"The weird thing is that when we checked the radio wasn't even plugged in."

Now the couple have enlisted the help of the South Wales Paranormal Research Team.

Mr Wilde said: "We don't feel frightened by what has been going on, just uncomfortable sometimes. All we want is an explanation.
