The South Wales Seniors Classic competition is now in its second year, following the successful season of 2004. This is a fourball better ball knockout competition specifically for senior golfers with a maximum handicap limit of 18 (three quarters difference).
Many clubs have already benefited in different ways. All the participating clubs were invited to host the Semi Finals and the Finals providing their team were no longer involved and this resulted in the Grove Golf Club providing the venue for the Semi Finals and Morriston Golf Club the venue for the presentation and dinner which followed the Final of the competition.
Most clubs are playing in the competition made their course available for teams wishing to play a practice round prior to the fixture, charged at the County Card rate. The committee thanks everyone who allowed this.
However, some players have stated that the Management of their clubs will not allow them to enter the competition. Reason given? They are tying up the course. This is not correct as all the matches are arranged by the home club at a time when the course is probably at its quietest time. The tee is only occupied for approximately 30 to 40 minutes, once a month - if the team is drawn at home.
Last year forty-four teams competed with the entry fee being donated to the Wales Air Ambulance.
This year the Semi Finals will be held mid August, and the Finals mid September. If your club is interested in hosting either of these events, please let Howel Craven know. If you need any further information please contact him.
The draw for the first round will take place at Llantrisant & Pontyclun Golf Club on Wednesday 23rd February at 11.00am. Everyone is welcome to attend but please note that the closing date for entries is 14th February 2005.
