SHOPPERS in Cwmbran have the chance to try one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world, thanks to a new shop in the town.

Dr & Herbs has opened its doors at The Parade, part of a 50-strong chain of shops across the UK.

Chinese herbal medicine was invented thousands of years ago, but we're a bit thin on detail because when Business Argus contacted the shop there was no-one available who could speak English.

In a written statement, company spokesman Dr Peng said: "Our philosophy is to introduce shoppers to the best Chinese medicine has to offer by working with the best Chinese doctors.

"They have many years of experience and are fully qualified in the traditional methods."

No animal products are used and the shop can also offer acupuncture and massage.

Dr Peng said: "Chinese medicine has been shown to give excellent results in the treatment of back pain, sciatica, psoriasis, eczema, migraine, weight loss, stopping smoking, hair loss, irritable bowel syndrome, infertility, painful periods and endometriosis.

"It seeks to find the underlying cause of health problems, and then works with the body's own natural systems to restore health.

"Western medicine is generally stronger and tends to dominate body systems more, so Chinese medicine is generally considered to be safer to use in the longer term."
