A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy seriously injured in a collision with a car is in a critical but stable condition in hospital today.
The child was taken to Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital with head injuries after being in an accident with a Ford Ka on Newport's Southern Distributor Road in the Spytty area just after 6pm on Friday.
He was transferred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where his condition was described by police today as critical but stable.
The incident happened when the boy, who is from the local area but who has not yet been identified, was crossing the dual carriageway with friends.
It happened on the westbound section of the new road just after the Nash Road roundabout where there is a nearby footbridge.
Police closed the newly-opened £55m road for several hours after the collision.
The male driver of the Ka was interviewed on Friday night and police said he was very upset by the incident.
Gwent Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
