DESPITE being named in the Wales squad, Dragons lock Ian Gough insists he will not be holding back in today's Celtic League clash with Glasgow at Rodney Parade.
Gough was named as part of Mike Ruddock's Six Nations squad earlier in the week but rather then hold back for fear of injury, the second-row forward will be going for Glasgow with all guns blazing this afternoon.
He said: "I've been named in the 31-man squad and now I am aiming to get into that 22 for the England game and this is really my last chance to do that and put a big performance in.
"I will be aiming to prove I'm worth my selection and this is a big game for the club after the disappointment of the weekend, so it is an ideal opportunity for me.
"We need to kick-start our season and we'll aim to do that today against Glasgow."
Gough admits it has been hard for his Dragons team-mates this week but insists they simply must get their season back on track.
He said: "It has been disappointing, but you've got to be philosophical and say that in sport you are going to win and lose, and we have to put it out of our minds and get back on track. And the best way to counter a loss is to get a big win.
"We can't underestimate Glasgow because they have the players and the capabilities to beat us today, so there will be no complacency in this camp. We don't want to be embarrassed on our own patch."
His call-up has earned huge praise from Dragons coach Chris Anderson, who said it was a testament to his attitude and professionalism over the past few months.
Anderson said: "I think it's great. Goughy has been in fine form over the past few weeks and he has a great attitude and puts a lot into his game and as a result he gets a lot out of it.
"It is a good selection for Wales and he has earned the right to be there. He was a bit disillusioned and just said to himself 'all I can do is put my head down and play rugby' and he is reaping the rewards of that."
Gareth Cooper returns to the starting line-up having been on the bench last weekend and skipper Jason Forster has been passed fit.
Luke Charteris is fit enough to be among the replacements but Nathan Brew is still injured
