If I remember the TV series right, bush tucker involved scratching around the outback for fat grubs and bitter roots.
Thankfully life is not as hard in Walkabout - a venue better known for its packed weekend dance floor.
Chicken wings tossed in Jack Daniels glaze were the likeable, sweet snacks to accompany a cold Tooheys beer.
Service was capable, but we were confused - was this a bar or a restaurant? Who goes where?
Finally we started with crayfish and wild lime dressing wraps (£5) and a crayfish and tiger prawn salad with marie rose sauce. Both were highly enjoyable and enough to be main courses.
The crayfish were meaty little nuggets - like mini lobster tails. The tiger prawns were too small to be truly 'tiger', but were tender and plentiful. Much of the menu looked like regular pub fare so we went 'Oz' and opted for two dishes of kangaroo meat.
The burger (£5.50) with red wine was dense and rich, packed with extras of bacon and cheese in a floury bun. Satisfying but not surprising.
The roo fillet with kakadu plum chilli sauce (£7) was dry and tasted like liver. The chips were uninspired, but the salad was fresh. Still - where else can you eat Skippy and get away with it?
Desserts are very limited. Banana-toffee ice-cream or chocolate mousse. Take your pick. Both, however, amply rounded off a pleasing meal in a spacious, quiet (at that time) fun pub environment. Just £38 bought a huge feed for two, and there are some great-value options on the menu. Paul Platt
