Historic Pontypool RFC memorabilia has been put in storage at the town museum as the search for a permanent home for the collection continues.
Old jerseys, international caps and programmes are among the items being held at the museum with club officials hopeful a long- term display area can be built at Pontypool leisure centre.
Two of the most treasured items are a framed photo of the famous Pooler front row of the 70s and 80s in their British Lions jerseys and a signed rugby ball from 1927 used in Pooler's unique double victory against Southern Hemisphere tourists New Zealand Maoris and New South Wales Waratahs.
The collection was previously been held at Elm house, Pontypool's ex-clubhouse, which is owned by former backer Robert Jude who has since distanced himself from the club and refused Pontypool RFC use of his premises. Museum curator Debbie Wildgust said: "The collection will not be on display but access to the stored collection will be available to genuine researchers. But they will need a letter of permission from committee members of Pontypool RFC.
"Pontypool Museum is very pleased to be able to make this offer, which ensures the safe keeping of this very important local collection."
Club secretary Arthur Crane said: "The club is extremely grateful to the museum for taking into storage some of the club's most precious memorabilia until such time we have the facilities to display it in a club house of our own."
