POLICE investigating a murder on the Monmouthshire border are appealing to walkers and horse riders for help.

The body of Courtney Davies, 53, from the Rumney area of Cardiff who was jailed for 15 years in 1986 for a violent robbery, was found in woods near Staunton, near Monmouth on December 20.

Mr Davies's body had multiple stab wounds and had been set on fire.

Yesterday police officers were in the lay-by off the A4136 at Staunton where Mr Davies was discovered in a bid to trace people who may walk their dogs or ride horses in the area on a regular basis.

It is hoped some of them may be able to provide clues or information on any suspicious activity that may have taken place in the area the evening before Mr Davies' body was discovered.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Kelly, who is leading the investigation, said: "There may be people who have not previously come forward to speak to us, and perhaps that is because they believe they saw nothing that would help us in any way.

"However, any information they may be able to provide no matter how small could be the link we need to solve this crime."
