St Barrwg's church in Bedwas made an appeal for vital funds for its restoration. The 900-year-old church is facing closure if it does not find the £250,000 it needs to rebuild its walls, install heating and treat the rising damp. A family was left devastated after an heirloom gold watch was stolen from their home. The Randell family from Penpedairheol were particularly saddened for their 11-year-old son David who was due to inherit the watch when he turned 18. It was originally owned by David's great grandfather Reg Randell.

October Bedwas-based charity Community Active Travel Services (CATS), which provides transport for disabled people, was involved in a row with the company that owns the severn bridge. The row erupted after one of the charity's coaches was charged for a severn bridge crossing despite it being exempt due to its passengers being disabled. A final decision was made to place a waste transfer station at Bedwas despite fierce opposition from local councillors, residents, Caerphilly AM Jeff Cuthbert and Caerphilly MP Wayne David. The council's scrutiny committee voted against opposing the original decision by cabinet and Mr David was disappointed with the outcome. Complaints to the Campaign offices reached an all new high as readers became infuriated about car clampers plaguing the town. Several readers had to pay fines of up to £95 to get their cars released by Clearway Parking Management who had clamped them in the carpark outside Blockbuster Video and Dominoes Pizza.

November Seven men and one youth appeared before Caerphilly magistrates charged in connection with a fight outside the Beech Tree Pub in Ystrad Mynach. They will be appearing before Newport Crown Court early in 2005. Twenty-five-year-old Ian David Wood died during the fight in the early hours of October 27 after being taken to the Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr. Caerphilly MP Wayne David voiced his concern over the government's proposed gambling reform. He argued his doubts and forced the government to rethink. Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan visited Caerphilly Leisure Centre to launch the free swimming for over-60s scheme. Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen councillor Ray Davies was jailed for non-payment of fines he received after attending a number of protests against the Iraq war. Sixteen new buses were on the road this month as part of a new £1.5 million scheme to improve local transport. The new buses have low floors for easy access and CCTV cameras.

December Ten-year-old Whitney Rees from Ystrad Mynach Junior School won Campaign's annual Christmas Card competition to find a design for Caerphilly MP Wayne David's official Christmas card. As part of her prize Whitney was presented with a cheque for £100. The Welsh Assembly Government awarded a £27 million grant to build a bypass around Bargoed, however the news was met with a mixed reaction from residents and local traders. Pubs in the Caerphilly borough launched a new initiative against drink spiking. Spika stoppas prevent the drink from being spiked with pills such as Rhoypnol.
