AN elderly Gwent woman is recovering in hospital after a shooting at her home in Chepstow.
Following the incident yesterday evening a 26-year-old man gave himself up to police in Bristol.
He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is being questioned by officers at Newport central police station.
Gwent police officers were alerted to the incident by ambulance staff just after 5pm yesterday.
When they arrived at the scene in Bulwark they found the 67-year-old woman with three wounds to her chest.
She was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital where her condition is described as comfortable.
A police search of the scene uncovered a handgun. Inquiries are continuing as to whether the weapon was involved in the incident.
Inspector Bob Worrall of Chepstow police said: "The victim of this attack has been very brave. It was a particularly vicious attack for an elderly lady. "Her condition is comfortable and she remains in hospital at this time."
