Newport County face 90 minutes tonight which could have huge ramifications for the rest of the season when they go to Caernarfon in the televised FAW Premier Cup showdown - but don't tell boss John Cornforth.

The financial rewards and the prospects of facing one of Wales' big three of Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham, are factors not lost on fans but Cornforth is keeping the preparations low key.

Newport County chairman Chris Blight has stated that any money gained in the cup competitions would be reflected in the manager's budget, meaning that the £15,000 on offer for making the quarter-finals would be extremely welcome but Cornforth is not getting wound up by the politics of the tie.

"I am treating it as just another game," explained the manager. "We had the big build up for the Tiverton and Kettering matches and it didn't do us any good but with the Weymouth game we treated it like just another match and it was successful.

"The game is a big one and live on television but I want the players to forget all about that and just go out and play in a relaxed manner." Cornforth admits that the last 10 days have been a rollercoaster ride and he is hoping for a less stressful evening.

"I would like to get an early goal and have a comfortable match," he said. "It would be nice to be on the touchline and not be on the verge of a heart attack for a change.

"It is important that the players enjoy it and that has not been the case of late. "We have had a bad week but I have told the players that we have to put it behind us and it is time for a fresh start."

The County boss may be hoping for a stress-free night but he has his fair share of injury worries.

Goalkeeper Roger Freestone is still out with an ankle injury as is midfielder Nathan Davies and a fitness test will be required for striker Jamie Moralee.

But on the plus side, Andrew Delve has been an able deputy in the County goal and Jon Coates has recovered from an infected toe.

Ashley Williams is also available after fearing he had broken his arm in the weekend defeat against Kettering.
