Gareth Thomas has sent a message to his Wales team-mates ahead of Friday night's game: "I don't want to be captain of a team that loses to Romania."

The Wales captain feels that complacency is the only way that Mike Ruddock's side will lose to the Romanians this week, and he will ensure there is no evidence of that on Friday night.

He said: "We will respect Romania, there is no danger that we will take them for granted.

"This is an opportunity for Romania to come to Wales and cause a massive upset and I don't want to be captain of a team that loses to the likes of Romania.

"No disrespect to them but we are a large rugby nation and it will be a massive shock if we lose to them, I don't want to lose any game I play and that is even more the case when I am captain.

"The only way we will lose is if we are complacent and it is my job to ensure that doesn't happen."

The last time Wales ran out against Romania, they beat them 54-8, ending an 11 match losing run, scoring six tries in the process. But Thomas is refusing to talk about margins of victory, preferring to take a more objective view of the game.

He said: "A good result for us on Friday will be a win.

"That is our first objective and will mean that we are making progress. We have set no margins, because it is an international rugby match and anything can happen and I respect the opposition more then that."

Meanwhile, Mike Ruddock has defended Wales' dodgy line-out which was an unwelcome feature of Saturday's performance.

He said: "It wasn't as bad as people have made out.

"It will take us a while to settle on our combinations and maybe that is area that can be improved from Saturday. We will probably have to go through a bit of pain before we get it right. People need to stand up such as Brent Cockbain and request the ball a bit more. But there has been a lot to learn in the past four or five days and I'm happy with the progress we are making.

Meanwhile Newport Gwent Dragons scrum-half Gareth Cooper is getting fitter all the time and may be available for selection on Friday.
