THE family of a teenager who died after a road crash in Newport has paid tribute to the "happy, outgoing young man".

Carl Snelgrove, 19, of Malpas, died on Friday night after a collision with a vehicle that failed to stop on Rowan Way, Newport, last Tuesday at 8pm. Police released a statement from Carl's distraught family.

It said: "Carl was a cheeky, independent, lively, happy and outgoing young man.

"He was kind, sensitive, but also stubborn and he had an answer for everything.

"He had a very cheeky grin," the family said.

Carl, a former pupil at St Joseph's Comprehensive School, had two brothers, John, 21, and Jordan 10, and a close circle of friends.

The statement added: "Carl attended St Mary's Roman Catholic Primary School, Queen's Hill, and as a young boy he was an altar boy at St Mary's Church, Stow Hill, where he was always told off for talking.

"His favourite hobby was fishing and he had an eye for the girls.

"Carl touched everyone who knew him in one way or another and we will all miss him so much."
