ITEMS belonging to missing Caldicot golfer James Nutley were found on a beach just yards from the Tenby hotel where he was staying, police revealed.

Mr Nutley, 25, from Deepweir Gardens, Caldicot, was last seen at midnight on Sunday after leaving the Prince of Wales pub in Upper Frog Street, Tenby.

The talented sportsman was on a golfing trip in the area with friends. Detective Inspector Jim Morris, of Dyfed Powys Police, said items belonging to Mr Nutley were found on Tenby's South Beach, directly below the Clarence Hotel on The Esplanade.

Mr Nutley and his friends were staying just yards up the road at the Giltar Hotel.

Inspector Morris said: "A member of the public found property that we know belongs to Mr Nutley on the South Beach on Monday. The property includes a driving licence."

Police would not say whether the property had been washed ashore or whether it was dropped on the beach.

It is believed that no items of clothing were among the possessions. Former Chepstow Comprehensive School pupil Mr Nutley works at St Pierre Golf Club and is a member of Dewstow Golf Club.

A sea search was called off yesterday as a force nine gale battered the seaside town.

Specialist police search teams focused their efforts around an outcrop of rock, called Giltar Point, at the far southern end of Tenby's South Beach. Police last night renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward. Mr Nutley had been to three Tenby pubs - The Lifeboat Inn on Tudor Square, The Three Mariners on George Street and then The Prince of Wales.

He is 6ft 2in tall, with brown hair, and was wearing a white top with blue sleeves and blue jeans.

His parents, Jeff and Catherine, and other family members are in Tenby, helping Dyfed Powys Police and coastguards with the search.
