A SEA search began today for a missing young golfer from Caldicot described as loving and caring by his family.

James Nutley, 25, from Deepweir Gardens, Caldicot, went missing after a night out in Tenby.

He was last seen at midnight on Sunday after leaving the Prince of Wales pub in Upper Frog Street, as reported in later editions of yesterday's Argus.

He was staying with friends at a local hotel after arriving earlier in the evening for a golfing trip in the town.

The talented golfer is described by aunt Gail Harris, from Caldicot, as a lovely boy.

She said: "He is very popular with lots of friends, he is a very kind and caring boy with a good sense of humour. "He is just a regular boy.

"We have a lovely relationship and he is great with his younger cousins and everyone.

"As a family we are all pulling together and helping one another as best we can and hoping for good news."

Mr Nutley's mother Catherine and other family members are in Tenby helping Dyfed Powys police and coastguards with the search.

Mr Nutley works at St Pierre Golf Club as an assistant pro and is a member of Dewstow Golf Club.

A talented player, Mr Nutley won Ian Woosnam's Cannes French Open when he was 17, and was presented with the top prize by the Welsh legend.

He also won the Junior Club Championship at the Celtic Manor and wanted to become a professional player.

Steve Partridge, retail supervisor at St Pierre, said he had grown up playing golf with James.

He said: "All our thoughts are with James and his family at the moment and we are all waiting for news. He is a very talented golfer."

He is 6ft 2in tall with brown hair and was wearing a white top with blue sleeves and blue jeans.

Coastguards checked a section of cliff in the town yesterday afternoon. Sergeant Adrian Crowdie, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the coastguard was to check further sections of water today.

Mr Nutley had been to three pubs - The Lifeboat Inn on Tudor Square, The Three Mariners on George Street and then the Prince of Wales.
