MCLUSKY can tell a story. You need to hear them do it a few times to get it but eventually it sinks in.

She Will Only Bring You Happiness is another epic from the band that stuck it's Lightsabresuckingblues in your face a few years ago. It's wrapped in less barbed wire than their old stuff or the B sides but the sense of unease and aggression still lurks.

A prostitute's tale, perhaps, Mclusky take to cold streets full of old singers and ex-criminals.

Slowly a sense of place is created located somewhere in South Wales for a story that plays itself out every night.

Andy Falkaus' melodic chanting is at its captivating best. He pummels his thoughts into you. Lines are cut into the next, words plucked and repeated mantra like.

The simple guitar line chimes underneath like one of Fugazi's quieter moments.

In total it could be Mclusky's finest three and a half minutes and it's certainly the most commercial.

l She Will Only bring You Happiness is out on Too Pure on Monday, September 6.

Mclusky play the Reading festival tonight and Leeds tomorrow. Their November tour takes them to Birmingham Academy (Sat 20), Glasgow King Tuts (Sunday 21), Newcastle Uni (Monday 22), Manchester Roadhouse (Wednesday 24), Leeds Joseph Wells (Thursday 25), and London ULU (Friday 26).
