A WOMAN described as a 'rock of the community' has died from cancer at the age of 55.

Angela Holt, a mother-of-one, died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer of the liver.

Her family and friends paid tribute to the woman who would 'do anything for anyone'.

Mrs Holt, who was born and brought up in Talywain, married David 15 years ago.

They had one son, also called David, who is now 14 and a pupil at Newbridge Comprehensive.

Mr Holt, who lives in Railway Terrace in West End, Abercarn, says his wife was a very caring woman who looked after her own parents and his mother before they died - and also described her as a good mother and neighbour.

"There can't be an elderly woman in West End who she hasn't picked up a prescription for," he said.

Mrs Holt first became ill in May and was admitted to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport but Mr Holt says scans found nothing wrong.

When she returned to her GP again in September she was admitted to hospital again - and a biopsy revealed she had cancer. She died at home on October 14.

The funeral will be held at Ellis Williams funeral home in Newbridge tomorrow at 2pm followed by interment at Abercarn Cemetery at 2.45pm and a reception at The Crown in West End.

The family has asked for flowers or donations to Cancer Research.
