NEWPORT Gwent Dragons will find out how good they are when they take on Newcastle in Saturday's Heineken Cup tie at Rodney Parade, says coach Chris Anderson.

"This is the perfect way of finding out exactly how good we are," said Anderson at today's Welsh launch of the Heineken Cup at the Millennium Stadium.

"We are happy with where we are and we are ready for the challenge. We said at the start of the season we wanted to build some momentum in the Celtic League before tackling the Heineken Cup and we have done that.

"Now we will find out exactly how good we are.

"It's good to be starting at home, though it does add some pressure because everyone knows you have to win your home games in this competition.

"We are looking to get off to a positive start in front of our own fans." Anderson revealed there are no special plans to deal with the threat of Jonny Wilkinson, England's World Cup hero.

"I haven't seen much of Wilkinson live - and I prefer to watch players live rather than on television- but there is obviously a lot about him," he said.

"I don't think it's a case of targeting him, it's more a case of taking his space away and not giving him the opportunities to do what he does so well.

"People make judgements every time he comes out and he's a marked player. We will try to cut out the room he has, it's not so much attacking him as limiting the opportunities he gets."

Anderson is looking for a big step up after last Friday's disappointing form against Borders, though the Dragons still extended their winning run to five matches.

"We won't be worrying about Newcastle, we will go out and play our own game. It will be a good question for our forwards especially after last week when we were below our best," he said.

Ticket sales are going well for the match and already this season's average of 5,200 has been passed. The Dragons are hoping to pass last season's best Heineken Cup gate of 8,300 against Leicester.
