THIS month's On Your Doorstep column is about a facility that's as close to home as you can possibly get.

Bryn Meadows Golf and Country Club, which earned a gold medal fom the Wales Tourist Board in recognition of its high standards and service, has just announced a special package aimed at those looking for a short break.

For just £50 a person you could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life with an overnight stay and full use of the club's facilities.

The package at Bryn Meadows, which is just a 15 minute drive from junction 28 of the M4 and in the heart of the Rhymney Valley, includes an overnight stay on a Sunday, including a traditional Sunday lunch on arrival, use of the spa and facilities, 18 holes of golf, an evening meal and a full breakfast on the Monday morning.

The club's first class parkland golf course was designed by Jeffries, Mayo and Defoy, and is famous for hosting events such as the World Amateur Championship Qualifying Round, British Amputee Golf Championships, Wales and West of England Whitbread Finals, Black Bottle Whisky Areas Finals and the Barclays Bank Regional.

In readiness for the 2010 Ryder Cup visit to the Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, Bryn Meadows is adding an extra 22 mini suites to its hotel.
