TWO legends of folk music reunite in Risca next month - John Renbourn and Jacqui McShee.
The guitarist and singer were two of the founder members of the jazz-folk fusion band Pentangle in 1967.
It was the genre's first super-group and its members have distinguished pedigrees on the folk scene in their own right.
Renbourn made its name in the folk clubs of London, along with the likes of Martin Carthy teaching the likes of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon how to play.
With Bert Jansch, also a guitarist in Pentangle, he recorded his first album Bert and John in 1965.
The mix of folk, jazz, and blues was labelled folk-baroque but it didn't flower until the formation of Pentangle.
Jacqui McShee was the band's fragile sounding singer and she was already singing traditional folk in British clubs when she met Renbourn in 1966.
In Pentangle she was able to tackle accompanied and unaccompanied folksongs, spirituals, blues and other styles.
The band released many acclaimed albums including Basket Of Light, Sweet Child and Cruel Sister.
Their song Light Flight became the band's most famous when it was used as the soundtrack to the TV drama, Take Three Girls.
Pentangle's heyday was the late 60s and early 70s but the band continued in one form or another until the mid 90s.
McShee has recently played with a new ensemble called Jacqui McShee's Pentangle while Renbourn has released a long string of solo albums.
On Thursday, November 11, they play Risca Rugby Club together, guests of the Islwyn Acoustic Guitar Club. It will be the popular folk club's first gig in the venue. For more info dial 01495 270078.
