MID WALES is fast becoming known as a great destination for activity holidays.
Now a Machynlleth building is being turned into bunk house accommodation for mountain bikers visiting the area.
Redtreks, a company offering customised weekend breaks for mountain bikers is developing the accommodation, which will cater for up to 16 people at a time, in the middle of Machynlleth.
In the two-story block, the ground floor will comprise living accommodation with sofas and dining furniture, kitchen facilities, male and female toilets/shower rooms, a disabled toilet, and a storage/drying room.
Storage lockers will be provided in the first-floor vestibule alongside the bedroom accommodation. Bedrooms 1 and 2 will each have four single beds, and bedroom 3 will have four bunk beds.
The accommodation also offers outside parking facilities, a patio area with barbecue facilities, and a wash area for equipment. A secure, lockable shed is also available for the storage and maintenance of equipment and the surrounding area will be appropriately landscaped. The accommodation is expected to meet the WTB's 4-star bunkhouse standard.
The development received a grant of £39,267 towards the cost from the Wales Tourist Board. The owner of the business, Tegid Humphries, who has cycled extensively in the area for over 15 years, is a qualified mountain bike instructor and guide and a member of the Association of British Cycle Coaches (ABCC).
Mr Humphries said: "The WTB grant made a valuable contribution to the project in that it enabled us to refurbish the property to high standard and to furnish and equip it with modern material."
