THIS was the touching moment when 105-year-old Gertie Jenkins met her first great-great-great-granddaughter for the very first time.
Mrs Jenkins, who lives at the Red Rose Nursing Home in Ebbw Vale, was said to be 'over the moon' with the newest addition to her family.
Little Regan was born last week, the first child for Mrs Jenkins' great-great-grandson Ben Hayward and his partner Becky, who live in Abercarn.
And on Wednesday the couple took their sixth-generation little bundle of joy to meet the eldest member of the family. Christine Strong, Mrs Jenkins' granddaughter-in-law, said it had been a lovely occasion.
"She was absolutely over the moon and nursed her for as long as she could manage to hold a 7lb baby," she said. "She wanted her held where she could see the baby all the time and her face was lit up the whole time Regan was there.
"It was lovely to see the pleasure she was having from this little baby." She added: "This is her first great-great-great-grandchild, so it was a very special occasion."
Mrs Jenkins lived in Abertillery for most of her life, before moving to Swffryd. She only moved to a nursing home just before her 100th birthday. She had five children, including her daughter Inez Hayward, now 83, who had son Malcolm Hayward, now 63.
Malcolm had Shayne, now 40, and Shayne had baby Regan's 18-year-old dad Ben.
