TOMMY the Terrier, abandoned by his Newport owner for five days without food or water, is seeking a new home after spending months in a boarding kennel.
On Tuesday his former owner Cheryl Denise Forster, of Christchurch Road, Newport, pleaded guilty to charges of abandoning the dog.
The 32-year-old left the Staffordshire bull terrier at her then home in Laburnum Drive while she went to stay at another home, just ten minutes away.
Abergavenny magistrates ordered Forster to give up ownership of the dog and fined her £50. She was also disqualified from keeping any animal for two years.
The RSPCA revealed the dog had been found covered in its own faeces, and dehydrated and cowering.
And after the court's decision the RSPCA said they will release three-year-old Tommy for rehoming.
A spokeswoman for the charity said: "We are ideally looking for somebody who has experience of owning dogs. Tommy is very friendly, but a little boisterous at times, maybe a little too strong for young children.
"He loves attention and needs regular exercise, so he is not really suitable for families who work all day."
