NEWPORT Gwent Dragons full back Kevin Morgan, pictured, describes his Wales squad call-up as a bonus just four games into a new season with a new team and after nine months out of action with shoulder and foot injuries.

Morgan has been in great form for the Dragons, scoring a try in the past two games against Glasgow and Leinster as well as laying on others, the product of some terrific running.

"It's nice to get called in, but the main goal was to play regular rugby for the Dragons up to Christmas, anything else is a bonus," he said.

Morgan says confidence is building in the Dragons camp after three successive victories ahead of their European campaign.

"With a few new players coming in it took a couple of games, but all of us are on board now and when you are throwing the ball about you tend to score good tries," he said.

"We want to play well with width and enjoy ourselves. It will be tough away to Ulster on Friday, they'll be smarting after losing their home record against the Ospreys, but we can take a bit of confidence and go into the Newcastle game with that behind us.

"We are all ambitious as a team in the Celtic League and Europe, but we'll keep our feet on the ground and carry on improving. We've got the makings of a good season."

The Dragons have moved up to third place in the table with a game in hand, but they are set to lose a lot of players for the November internationals.

Morgan, Percy Montgomery, Ceri Sweeney, Gareth Cooper, Michael Owen and Luke Charteris will miss the November games against the Ospreys, Munster, Edinburgh and Connacht unless they are released if not in the Wales 22.

On top of that Hal Luscombe may be out of the early November games with his damaged shoulder and Richard Bryan is in the Welsh training squad.

Meanwhile, Dragons chief executive Andy Marinos has been voted on to the Welsh Rugby Union board representing the four regions.

"It's nice for me to get to understand the organisation and the way things work. It also gives all the regions a fair input and gives me a chance to build up good relations between the regions and the board," he said.

New Wales captain Gareth Thomas has pleaded to be left out of the club v country row over the Wales-South Africa game on November 6. It has been reported in France that Thomas' new club Toulouse don't want to release him for Wales because of allegations the South Africa game is an additional fixture.

The International Board have backed Wales and Thomas says: "If it comes to the point where they ask a player to choose between club and country that would be unfair and would take the shine off it."
