CARDIFF City loan defender Darren Williams believes Cwmbran's Danny Gabbidon can shackle England wonder-boy Wayne Rooney, pictured below, this weekend and Bluebirds' boss Lennie Lawrence couldn't agree more.
Williams, a former England Under-21 player who joined the Bluebirds from former Premiership side Sunderland, is certain that the man he describes as "Mr Cool," can make an impact in the biggest game of his career.
Wales visit Old Trafford on Saturday in a World Cup qualifier before hosting Poland four days later and Williams is sure Gabbidon is the man to stop Rooney.
"Danny is unflappable and he has been great since I arrived here and has really impressed me," Williams said.
"He is a defender with great pace, comfortable on the ball, is a great leader and is just a generally good player.
"I think Danny will do really well against Rooney because he is 'Mr Cool,' an all-round defender with all the attributes needed to play at the highest level. He won't fear Wayne and he will find a way to cope with him and will do a great job."
"He could easily play in the Premiership as he reads the game so well, he could step up to almost any level.
"And if eventually Gabbs moves on and he does play in the Premiership he will only get better."
Gabbidon was in imposing form in the goalless draw against Leeds United on Saturday and with his immediate future assured after signing a new deal to stay at Ninian Park, Lawrence is confident that he can produce a massive performance at the weekend, along with the rest of the Wales side.
He said: "Danny will not be worried one iota by the prospect of having to mark Rooney.
"Fazed? You must be joking, he is not fazed by anything, least of all marking an opponent.
"Danny prefers to come up against small, quick players like Rooney rather than bigger strikers anyway.
"Wales are a bit like Cardiff City, when they are at home and supposed to win convincingly, they don't.
"But when their backs are against the wall and everyone anticipates a defeat, they shock a few people.
"And if Danny is in the middle of a Wales success next weekend, I will be absolutely delighted."
