A GROUP of young people from Gwent who sing about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse are getting ready to play a second major gig.
Musical Youth, from Pontypool and Blaenavon, are taking their show of self-penned songs to Cwmbran's Congress Theatre on Friday, October 8. Appropriately, the project, which is co-ordinated by Torfaen council, was funded by the Home Office Recovered Assets Fund - cash seized from drug pushers.
Musical Youth project co-ordinator Jay Ryan said the idea was to divert the profits of drug dealers into something positive.
The group of 40 young people, aged 11-18 completed their own CD in the spring, called Pure Vibes, and played their first gig in June, at Blaenavon Workmen's Hall.
"Nothing's made up - it's all based on real accounts and hard facts," she said.
"Some of those taking part were performing for the first time, and they were brilliant."
Styles of music range from rap to hip hop and dance to guitar-based rock. Tickets for the 7pm show cost £1. The CD will be on sale at the Congress, for £5.
