Cwmbran speedway rider Tom Brown doesn't want the season to end.
Brown turned the Conference Trophy finale at Brandon into a personal triumph as Coventry Cougars again met with collective disappointment.
Brown amassed a bumper 30-point haul from the two meetings in one against Weymouth and Sheffield, but the Cougars suffered narrow back-to-back defeats on Monday night.
The crowd responded in tremendous fashion as Brown frequently came from behind to take the chequered flag.
Cougars boss Des Quinney, said: "It was soul destroying to lose both matches by such narrow margins, but Tom provided £7 worth of entertainment all on his own."
Brown is in action again tonight, riding for Stoke against Wimbledon in the Conference League and then faces Newport at Loomer Road on Saturday night.
The 20-year-old Brown walks with a limp, has one leg shorter than the other and suffers with a twisted spine after being struck down with septic arthritis.
He has overcome some painful odds to make his way in the sport, and his stunning showing must go down as one of the most inspired individual displays at Brandon in recent years.
Brown made only one start all night, but hugged the fence to consistently come from the back to pocket seven wins and three second places. His 19 points in the first match against Weymouth deserved better than to finish on the wrong end of a 47-46 defeat.
The Cougars, who would have probably won both meetings had they been able to track Karlis Ezergailis at reserve, and not been robbed of the services of the injured Ben Barker, trailed by 10 points with three races left, but bagged a 7-2 in heat 13 when Brown won a tactical ride and Karl Mason tucked into third place.
A 3-3 in heat 14 then gave Weymouth victory, though the Cougars finished with a 5-1 to narrow the winning margin to just a single point.
Brown's coup de grace was saved for the second meeting with Sheffield when he stormed from the back to overhaul the previously unbeaten pairing of Wayne Carter and Paul Cooper in heat 13.
Sheffield, who lost reserve Mark Richardson after a nasty first bend tangle with Jeremy Pestell in heat four, relied heavily on Carter and Cooper to front a 47-43 victory.
Cooper won heat three off a 15-metre handicap for touching the tapes while ex-Bees rider Carter repassed Brown to win the final race of the night, the Cougars having gone to the tapes needing a 5-1 to draw.
l Newport GMB Mavericks have two meetings this week. After the Stoke meeting they ride at home to Newcastle Gems on Sunday afternoon.
GMB Mavericks (v Stoke): Karl Mason, Scott Pegler, Matthew Tutton, Sam Hurst, Jamie Westacott, Billy Legg, Karlis Ezergailis.
Young Shield: Isle of Wight 59 (Ray Morton 13+2) Stoke 32 (Jan Staechmann 11) - Isle of Wight win 99-84 on aggregate.
