POLICE are investigating the possibility that two women had their drinks spiked in separate incidents in Newport at the weekend.
Officers are warning the public to be aware and not to leave their drinks unattended at any time.
PC Debra White, crime and disorder reduction officer at Newport central police, said both women were in their early to mid- 20s.
In the first incident, PC White said a woman had been drinking at a number of bars around the city.
"She became quite ill, passed out and had to be taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital to be dealt with there," she said.
The second incident is thought to have happened at the Carpenter's Arms, in the city centre.
PC White said that this woman told officers she had left her pint of lager for a couple of minutes and later felt ill and was sick.
Both cases are still being investigated.
PC White issued a warning to the public in light of these two recent cases, and incidents of drinks - and more recently a cigarette - allegedly being spiked in Swansea.
* Don't leave your drinks unattended;
* Don't accept drinks from strangers;
* If you start to feel strange, keep a close friend with you all the time;
* If you think you are a victim, notify the police immediately.
