A RAVE party brought misery to people living in Magor - and had to be closed down by police.
Residents say music began at midnight on Saturday, and it was 10am on Sunday before police were able to pull the plug.
The rave, which had a professional sound system protected from the elements by a marquee, was staged in a field near Llandevenny.
Inspector Richard Brake, of Gwent Police, said: "Police received numerous complaints from residents of loud music during the early hours of Sunday.
"It was discovered that a rave was taking place in the Magor area. Officers attended and estimate some 150 persons had congregated in a field outside the village.
"Despite requests from officers for the volume of the music to be reduced, it could be heard throughout the night.
"Shortly after 10am, officers entered the site with the landowner and were able to identify the organisers.
"Faced with the prospect of immediate enforcement action, the event was closed and the attendees left peaceably."
But Carol Hopkins, vice-chairwoman of Magor community council, said that when she visited the site yesterday afternoon the music was still playing.
She said: "The noise was unbelievable. I heard it all night, and so did the rest of the village. It started at about midnight on Saturday.
"It was just a solid beat that made all my windows vibrate. The whole village was up.
"I went back in the afternoon and the music was still going. There were at least 80 vehicles parked there, a marquee was up, there were even a couple of cars with French numberplates.
"There were vehicles parked along the lane with people asleep inside, and inside I saw girls staggering around. I wouldn't have liked it to be a daughter of mine.
"It was awful and I hope we never, ever have a repeat."
* Two people were arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drugs.
