WE must adopt a harder edge - that is the attitude of Newport Gwent Dragons coach Chris Anderson as he makes his first venture into Scotland tomorrow for the Celtic League match against Glasgow.

Anderson insists the Dragons must make better use of their chances and that players whose training has been slightly restricted this week because of slight knocks were not considered.

"We have talked a lot about it this week, and we are not going to beat good sides by wasting chances," he said.

"We created four try scoring opportunities last week and didn't take them. We need to be tougher on ourselves, we have got to finish our chances off.

"And I want to take a fit team away so the boys who have trained all week are playing, not those guys who didn't train fully meaning there will be a bit of doubt whether they last the game.

"Three players haven't trained this week, but there's not much between them and the boys who have come in.

"Attitude is a team thing, and we want to come away with a result."

Anderson believes the Dragons are steadily improving, and is looking for more tomorrow night.

"Last week was a big improvement, we showed incredible commitment and our defence won it for us, though our attack needs improving," he said.

"We need to gain momentum each week, we get more from a win and we have done some quality training this week.

"But it will be no good coming off the win last week with a loss up there tomorrow."

l Wales assistant coach Scott Johnson is heading to France tomorrow to watch Gareth Thomas play for Toulouse, and on Saturday he will watch Stephen Jones and Gareth Llewellyn on opposite sides in the Narbone-Montferrand (now renamed Clermont Auvergne) clash.

Wales coach Mike Ruddock would have gone, but is recuperating after a minor hernia operation though he will take the Wales squad session when the players reconvene on Monday.

l Yesterday's meeting between the WRU and the regions on the new charter was called off due to availability problems, but both sides got together again today with a funding issue still to be resolved.

l Scrum half Rhodri Jones, released by Newport Gwent Dragons because of the presence of Gareth Cooper and Gareth Baber, has joined Llanelli Scarlets until the end of the season.

Scarlets pair Dwayne Peel and Michael Phillips are both going to be required for Wales training, though Peel has been out with an ankle injury. Dale Burn, the former Newport scrum half who is with Llanelli, is still suffering from the trauma of a car accident in July.

l The Welsh Rugby Union are set to win the battle with Twickenham to stage the match between the British Lions and Argentina as a warm-up for the Lions tour to New Zealand next summer.
