IT'S old masters versus schoolmasters in a new charity calendar produced by Hartridge Comprehensive.

Fifteen male members of staff at the school have joined forces with the art department to create the calendar.

The Secret Lives of Hartridge Men 2005 was put together in aid of one of the school's teachers, who is suffering from cancer.

And thanks to sponsorship from pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim, all the profits from the £5 calendar will go to Cancer Research UK.

Jimmy Stokes, 51, head of sixth form, organised the calendar and appears as Michelangelo's Adam, being created by head teacher Goff Davies.

He said: "One of our colleagues is ill with cancer and that's what triggered it off, but all of us know someone who has had cancer at some point.

"The art department came up with these and I thought what they'd come up with was terrific and started looking for sponsorship. We were able to get Boehringer Ingelheim to cover the cost of the calendar, so not a penny is going anywhere but Cancer Research.

"I'm in November. I'm Adam, from Michelangelo's ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. I was really impressed with the results - though it's fairly obvious it's not my body.

"The experience was such fun, and knowing it was all for a worthy cause helped us overcome all nerves."

Kelly Booth, 30, is Hartridge's head of art, and helped put the calendar together. She said: "We asked for volunteers to get involved, but at first we wanted them to strip off.

"Paul Dixon, the caretaker, did, but a lot of other people chickened out. Then we did the Henry the Eighth picture, and then we started with other pictures and started seeing them everywhere.

"It was very time-consuming, but it was really good fun. All the models were up for a laugh and we didn't have anybody complain."

Steve Bevan, 35 and a geography teacher, said: "I'm May - I'm the monkey with my big red bum stuck out, looking at a nut.

"We had a few choices and I picked out that one. I thought it would be the funniest. The kids find it really funny. They just start laughing and then it takes them a while to realise who it is.

"I admit I never expected to be appearing on a calendar, though - it's quite a shock."
