THE Newport County manager's job will not be going to any 'big-time Charlie' looking to make a fast buck. Many fans are hoping for a crack name to take over the hot-seat but chairman Chris Blight has insisted that the club have no intention of bringing in a big-shot on big money that could end in disaster.
Following County's crucial 1-0 victory at St Albans last night, Blight said: "We have already received a great number of applicants and there are different types of names on there but the club have no intention of appointing someone who has just a big name and who is only applying because they have nothing else to do and want to make money out of the club.
"We need someone who knows all about this level (Nationwide South) and how to get us out of it. The right man will have the knowledge to get us to the Conference."
Blight also revealed that an appointment should be made within the next seven days.
He said: "We are taking our time because it is a long process and important that we get it right. But I would be disappointed if we did not have our manger in place by this time next week."
Meanwhile acting boss Glyn Jones paid tribute to the players for a battling display at St Albans.
He said: "The lads are hurting at the moment at the results and wanted to get something out of this. It was a massive result and important to get three points.
"I thought the back four were superb, Andrew Thomas was exceptional and after being out for so long with injury, he is back to his best.
"Also it was great to see the Academy boys helping get the points in the end. Losing Scott (Morgan) and Jamie (Moralee, both to injuries) was a blow but John Phillips ran his socks off and Neil Passmore did really well.
"Ashley Williams was superb as well. And you have to remember that these guys are still only 18."
Classy defender Scott Morgan, who limped off with a aggravation of a foot injury sustained in the defeat at Basingstoke two weeks ago, revealed that the players are hoping a new boss is unveiled sooner rather than later. He said: "Obviously we hope it is soon because you don't really know what is going on and we want to get on with things.
Morgan is now a doubt for Saturday's crunch clash against big-spending Hornchurch.
