SWANSEA number two Kevin Nugent is OUT of the running for the Newport County manager's job, saying that he has no intention of leaving the Vetch Field.

Nugent has emerged as one of the names that tops the fans wish-list but the 35-year-old was quick to knock the notion on the head.

He said: "I am more then happy to be doing my job here.

"It is nice to be linked with something like this. To be honest, it is a good job.

"Newport have some decent players and are a good club, but I am still learning things now."

He added: "Although I have a nice job as assistant manager I still want to take the slow route through.

"I am working with some great players here. It's a fantastic club and I am learning off a well-respected coach and manager.

"It is a shock that I have been linked with Newport but I am sure they will have some decent candidates for the job.

"But I am enjoying every moment of what I am doing at Swansea at the moment."

County are in action this afternoon with Cambridge visiting (kick-off 3pm) and acting boss Glyn Jones is targeting three points.

He said: "It is all about getting the three points. We had a decent performance on Tuesday (in the 1-0 defeat at Dorchester) but at the end of the day we got beat.

"Football is all about winning."

Midfield duo Nathan Davies and Scott Young will face fitness tests but Cambridge 'keeper Duncan Roberts, who was released by County at the end of last season, will not play due to a serious shoulder injury.
