THIS is your last chance to help Newbridge's Memorial Hall win the £3 million prize in BBC's Restoration programme - by dialling up and voting for the landmark building.

Tomorrow is the day of reckoning for the "jewel of the Valleys" built by the miners of the area - supporters will be holding their breath as they wait to find if their weeks of intense work has paid off .

The telephone lines for voting opened last night and will stay open until 10pm tomorrow.

It costs 50p for each call - 35p of which goes towards the Restoration Fund - and you can vote as many times as you wish.

The number you must call to give the Memo its chance is 09011 322203. Howard Stone, chairman of the Friends of the Memo, said: "We are coming home with the prize - there is no question about it.

"We have support from other mining communities all over Britain - and in Europe as well. We have had letters from France and America."

He added everyone should vote for the Memo because it "is not just restoration for restoration's sake."

He said: "This is about protecting something that has been bequeathed to us and making it into something for future generations."

Last minute publicity for the Memo will also continue this weekend, with supporters handing out thousands of the postcards they had published at Blackwood Carnival and at the Newport National Eisteddfod.

A busload of supporters is heading for London's Hampton Court where the final is being held tomorrow - and Mr Stone says they will even be handing out leaflets at the service stations on the way.

Yesterday, the Memo got a visit from funnyman Max Boyce, former Welsh international rugby player Rupert Moon and baby daughter Tanwen.

As he rallied support, Max offered to perform a concert at the Memo.

He said: "I would like to help in any way I can."

He also praised fundraising efforts, saying: "Even if you lose you have done a huge amount by attracting attention to this cause. I wish you well." Rupert Moon, presenter of the TV programme X-Ray, said: "I can't give you a concert but give me a broom and I will help sweep up!"

Islwyn MP Don Touhig also called for people to "get behind the Memo" and said he would be voting this weekend.

"Now is the time to stand up and be counted. Let's get behind the Memo - vote early and vote often!"

* The Restoration final will be screened at 9pm on BBC2 tomorrow.
