Newport County are hoping to court a few big name applicants in their search for a replacement for departed coach Peter Nicholas.
The move will appeal not just to fans, but to potential sponsors with the likes of former Newport striker John Aldridge, former Chester boss Mark Wright or even ex-England number two John Gorman, who was beaten to the Forest Green job by Alan Lewer, lined up for the role
Whether or not the club could meet the demands of such a manager, remains to be seen.
However, any managerial appointment is not likely to happen in the near future as the club plan to advertise the position through Acorn Recruitment and that process is expected to last around six weeks.
Meanwhile, County players will put their resentment of Peter Nicholas' sacking behind them and concentrate on playing for the amber shirt, vows acting boss Glyn Jones.
The managerless side went down 1-0 at Dorchester Town in the Nationwide South last night but the result was scarcely deserved after County created the lion's share of the chances and dominated play only to crash to a soft late goal.
It is well known that several top players are livid at the decision to sack Nicholas, with big names Jason Bowen and Scott Young among the most vociferous, but a clear-the-air meeting at training on Monday night has put the record straight.
Jones, who has no intention of applying for the manager's job, said: "At the end of the day the players are professionals. I had a long chat with them on Monday and reminded them that their responsibilities lie with the football club and the supporters.
"They realise that when they wear the shirt of Newport County they have to go out do their best. "Also now, they have got to go out and impress any new manager."
Despite the result, which leaves them with just one win from the last six games, Jones was pleased with the performance after a traumatic few days.
He said: "The lads went out and put on a very committed performance.
"They just didn't get the breaks in front of goal.
"Some of the football on show was very good and I don't think anyone could get on their back if they saw the game.
"I asked them to have a go and they did that. They didn't get the result they deserved but their attitude was superb."
